Back in June 2019 when I was first diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and Graves’ disease I set myself a load of goals to try and recover some of the fitness I’d lost over the previous four years of being undiagnosed and really not well. For a few months I was really focused on them but thenContinue reading “Obsessing Over The Wrong Things!”

Why the ‘fat burning zone’ is complete bollocks!
I posted an image a few days ago comparing my heart rate during a workout session after having a pre workout drink to my heart rate during the same workout session without it. I was actually pretty impressed with the difference. I’ve been struggling with fatigue for a while due to my thyroid function nowContinue reading “Why the ‘fat burning zone’ is complete bollocks!”
Diet vs Exercise: What’s Most Important?
You see it thrown around all the time that ‘abs are made in the kitchen’ and that weight loss is ‘80% diet and only 20% exercise’. I hate both phrases. Abs aren’t made in the kitchen, they’re developed in the gym or other exercise facility, but their visibility is determined by body fat percentage andContinue reading “Diet vs Exercise: What’s Most Important?”
New Year, Same Old Me!!
I’m seeing the slogan ‘New Year, New Me’ everywhere today. It’s by people talking about turning over a new leaf and making positive changes and by people moaning about people claiming to be turning over a new leaf and making changes today! I’ve never understood the need to wait for a specific date to makeContinue reading “New Year, Same Old Me!!”
Good News At Last
I’ve not written much for this blog lately. Everything had been pretty much the same and I didn’t want to keep complaining and people get fed up with hearing it. I lost a lot of motivation for everything when I couldn’t complete the trial for the new drug for Graves’ disease as I have beenContinue reading “Good News At Last”
Pole Dancing at 40!
I’m questioning my decision to start again with pole quite a lot recently. I’m 40, I have already been diagnosed with three chronic illnesses and investigations are ongoing to see if I have a third. I hadn’t really done anything in four years and I’m having to start from scratch. I was managing to teachContinue reading “Pole Dancing at 40!”
Thinner, Leaner, Stronger!
Before my diagnosis of hyperthyroidism, I lost a lot of muscle mass due to thyrotoxic myopathy. I’m not exactly sure why excessive levels of thyroxine cause muscles to breakdown, I just know it does and if left untreated can result in severe respiratory distress and lots of other complications. I’d become stupidly weak. I couldn’tContinue reading “Thinner, Leaner, Stronger!”
It’s Not All Or Nothing!!
Graves’ disease is a pretty shit thing to have. There are so many ways it’s effecting my life, but there are some positives I’m getting from it. Since being diagnosed, I’ve understood why I’ve felt so shit for the last four years, and I’ve decided I’m not prepared to let it beat me. I’ve startedContinue reading “It’s Not All Or Nothing!!”
Starting Again And Rebuilding Me!
The reality is there will probably be about a million posts about this. I’m still in the relatively early stages of getting myself fit again and there’s seems to be a lot of up and downs but I’ve kept moving and I’m definitely getting stronger over all so that’s got to be a good thing.Continue reading “Starting Again And Rebuilding Me!”
